What is the Patronus? Patronus is a form of positive energy,
materialized in the form of a silvery-white cloud, most often taking the form of a guardian animal.
It can be conjured up with the Patronus spell, the formula of which is Expecto Patronum. Then you have to focus on your happiest memory. In the case of less experienced wizards, the patronus takes the form of a shapeless, silver-white mass.
               
Some wizards deliberately give him this form to hide his true form (Severus Snape was thus hiding his love for Lily, Remus Lupin was afraid that his patronus might reveal that he was a werewolf)
